Dr. Bishop Speaks to NAPA Council

Dr. Kathleen Bishop, Vice President of the NTG, offered public comments on January 17, 2024 to the federal Advisory Council on Alzheimer's Research, Care, and Services. Her plea to the Council was intended to increase awareness of a model program for DSPs. She told the Council that DSPs are the backbone for providing day-to-day care and support to people with intellectual disability affected by dementia. She outlined the exciting model that the NTG has undertaken in training in dementia care practices, through the NADSP's e-Badge Academy. Staff participants, supported by their organizations as paid members of the Academy, can earn national certification through “stack-able electronic badges". The badges demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and values that these professionals utilize every day and meant to recognize the importance of providing practical and easily accessible training to promote the professional development which might otherwise go unacknowledged.
